it boggles the mind
so mary cheney has given birth. congrats. how is it that her father is one of the lead men, if not THE lead man, of an administration that promotes such a hateful, discriminatory agenda against queer folk...the bush/cheney regime is very clear about its stand on gay marriage, gay rights, etc. no marriage, no rights. why is everyone letting cheney get away with the "how dare you ask about my personal life" schtick when his public stance is so clearly homophobic? and how can mary cheney support her father's administration? self hatred? ick.
on another related note, what must it feel like to be mary cheney's partner? every public statement about their life together is about mary, that mary will be a "loving soul" for her child...that the rest is "personal". how must it feel to be publicly invalidated on such a regular basis?

i think it goes to show that the gay issue is a weapone they use for political gain. it may not necessarily be cheney's actual belief (anti-gay). he may actually be cool with gays, butnot politically advantageous as a businessman. you know? a lot of politicians believe one thing in their private lives and practice another for political gain.
the cheney's probably love mary and her home-partner to death. are very cool with gays and lesbians, but not so politically. mary probably gets that to be politically tactical, good ole dick has to be anti-gay. these high power, corporate folks have a different code of ethics (obviously) than us joe shmoes. we try to allign our actions and values, but businessmen, the elite that run the country, only allign their actions with what will yeild the better profit. they beleive being a good capitalist is more improtant than their actual value system and if being anti-gay helps them yeild a profit, then that is the tactic of the day.
I agree Sara, self-hatred is gross. I can't tell you how many times I've heard my queer friends down here in San Diego say that they wish they weren't gay. It's truly disturbing.
